Yiddish folk song a cappella

Get the latest Album

The duo consisting of Esther Wratschko and Isabel Frey is dedicated to a particularly intimate genre: Yiddish folk songs. With socially critical lullabies, songs lamenting human trafficking, and anti-capitalist nigunim, they bring the political power and significance of Yiddish songs back into the spotlight, infusing them with contemporary two-part a cappella arrangements, cello, and electronic elements.

The debut album by Soveles, in collaboration with cellist Lili Weinhandl and with sound design by Alexander Yannilos, was released on November 16, 2022 at the Klezmore Festival Vienna by Klangue Records. It is available through Hoanzl and Bandcamp.
